For you
our vulnerable phoenixes

Dear everyone, it is with a grateful heart that we write to thank you for who you are and what you bring to this world. If you are new or old to making art we want to acknowledge that learning and doing can be difficult. And if you’re stuck and can’t find the time or are in that fever pitch of Spring we understand that, too. If you are in a sweet spot with your life and creative practice? We celebrate you too!
But most of all this letter is for those of us who are feeling vulnerable. Maybe you’re going through changes, tired of reaching or having risen and gotten somewhere only to feel that unavoidable fall. This is our reminder that falling is part of the process. When you learn to make art so often there is the feeling that you can’t quite get there. And then you have a good day. Only to start something new and to be crushed by the realization that you can’t remember how you did it?! Please trust time and that practice will bring clarity. Art making has cycles and a low point is an opportunity to reflect, rest, and contemplate. Breathe into where you’re stooped with curiosity, this is where you’ll find the nourishment to grow. And for those of you who just said in your mind I don’t have time. Here’s a little trick I offer. I put it on my calendar in three weeks or sometimes three months. Time for Art. Sometimes art has to wait. But it never really leaves us. Not if you want it. Art will wait for you.
I recently read this quote from Diego Perez/Yung Pueblo: How do you build a good life? Relentlessly follow your intuition. build with people who love to grow. take responsibility for your healing. love yourself so deeply that you feel at home in your own body and mind. teach yourself to forgive. never stop being a kind person.
My words to self… Be real, be true… and do the best you can at the moment. Recognize the best looks different for each and every one of us. Don’t expect more from yourself than you would expect from others. Trust me I’m learning this, too! And glad to be learning alongside you all. Thanks for reading our newsletter.
As always we appreciate you. Warmly, Jolyn
